The Brick is certified gold when it comes to bars. The staff was friendly and professional. The atmosphere was simultaneously intimate and inviting. It's not a big place but it seemed to have plenty of room. The food was better than your usual bar food. Definitely worth ordering just for the food. The drinks were amazing. It's not a bar for people who just like to be seen. It's a place for real people! I'll definitely be back.
Nut allergy friendly: I did not even ask for the Tuesday Special, since it's just a burger and tots. Plenty of parking here in the lot nearby that is shared with other businesses! Came in around 7:30PM on a Tuesday night and had no issues getting a bar seat, though most tables were taken. The couches were open though. Note that I came in while there isn't a pop-up, much different than when there's a crowd and you need a reservation. You order at the bar regardless of wanting food or just a drink. Review is solely for their happy hour / special since it's possibly one of the best value "secrets" in the Heights. Tuesday nights are 10 for a burger, tots, and an Old Fashioned. I've literally seen someone come up and order two for themselves (I'm tempted to do the same next time). It's an absolutely incredible deal. In the sea of businesses swapping to cold brew concentrate for their espresso martinis, this is one place that still makes it purely from espresso. Seriously, you can taste the difference. The bartenders really know their stuff and deserve every penny. Will definitely be back. The bartenders are friendly, the locals are friendly, and the deals are awesome.
Family antique shoppers kicked me out of the car to haul goodies back to house and couldn’t have landed on a better barstool than at Johnny’s! Restroom too nice for a “dive” bar, more like an old-school neighborhood classic cocktail dive bar. The bartenders are the difference...their conversation as refreshing as their drinks. Had the pleasure of spending most of the afternoon with Alden ( just wasn’t ready to leave when family came to pick me up). Cold local brews, professionally crafted cocktails, and good food truck out front. Can’t remember all the great cocktails served (turned into a long visit), but the old-fashioned and sidecar are definitely tasty. Take an Uber, stay a while! Sit at the bar!
Great happy hour. I love the intimate vibe of this bar. The bar staff is very attentive and they are great at making suggestions. The food from the food truck, is pretty good too. Has instantly become one of my favorite spots to unwind.
Listen. This is my favorite bar in the entire world. The cocktails are high quality. The atmosphere is comforting and neighborly. The vibes are immaculate. But most importantly, the bartenders are INCREDIBLE. I've been coming here for 7 years and every member of the staff has been nothing short of friendly and accommodating and knowledgeable. You would be hard pressed to find a better bar in Houston.
The Expresso Martini here is truly exceptional—definitely one of the best in town. I appreciate that they offer both indoor and outdoor seating, catering to different preferences. The staff is incredibly friendly, always making you feel welcome. The food is solid, adding to the overall enjoyment of the experience. And I must mention Trent, the bartender; his cheerful demeanor lights up the place. It’s a homey atmosphere where you can genuinely relax and feel at ease.
There is very few places; that make you feel welcomed and encouraged to try new things. Johnnys is one of those places; been coming here for years and never felt the need to post about it. This bar is elevating the standard on what becoming a bar is like. Johnny’s gold brick in my opinion is the what the GOLD standard is in hospitality; non-prententionessness? And drink quality. Beer and shot. Done. Cocktail classic. Done. New menu ideas. Makes me mad I didn’t think of it first.
Perfect vibe, amazing drink selection, stunning service! I love everything about this bar. Fun food options as well! Wine, NA beer, and mixed drink options. Alden was an amazing bartender making us fancy fun drinks on the fly! This is 100% a bar you should check out if you are in the area!
